Maya & Rob in RASL

As an acronym for Romance at the Speed of Light, this comic revolves around the relationship between scientists Rob and Maya. Rob has an affair with his best friend’s wife and leaves his job to hijack priceless art in parallel dimensions, and it’s while he’s in these dimensions that he finds other versions of Maya.

Harley Quinn & The Joker in Batman

Former psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel falls for her patient The Joker when she abandons the Hippocratic Oath to help him rob banks and terrorize Gotham City. This comic is about compromise and fidelity as Quinn sticks to her man despite the fact that he wears his severed face like a mask.

It is only at the end of the comic that you realize his true affections when his dream reveals that his personal government escort, Agent 355, wants to do more than just guard him. Although the relationship never reaches fruition, the comic is full of witty banter and suppressed desire.

Apollo & Midnighter in The Authority

Should Superman pair up with Lois Lane or Wonder Woman? How about neither. In the adventures of Apollo and Midnighter, two Superman and Batman type characters portray a gay couple who marry and adopt a toddler.

Bigby Wolf & Snow White in Fables

In this comic, Bigby Wolf retires from stalking grandmas and pigs to raise a litter of human-wolf hybrids with Snow White. Together, they are one of the most mature and stable unions in modern-day comics.

Looking For Love in Unconventional Places

Dating can be difficult, and with conventional school or office romances taking a backseat to online dating, the game has certainly changed in the last couple of decades. Many are sick of the bar and club scene as well, and with Netflix and other streaming services occupying more and more of our free time a lot of us just don’t have the energy left or don’t want to put the effort into meeting someone new. Online dating comes with its own set of frustrations, which is why we’ve come up with these two unconventional but effective ways to meet new people that you’ll want to try right away.

Speed dating. What many consider to be an antiquated method of meeting new people is making a miraculous comeback! With more and more venues hosting speed dating events, it’s become a fun casual activity worth bringing a friend to that just may lead to some long term magic! Bring an open mind and you’re sure to have some fun regardless!

Dance classes. Dance classes are a great way to meet people, but be respectful, as your primary motivation should be a desire to learn how to dance. Dance studios are a place of respect, and disrespectful behavior isn’t tolerated, but if everyone is there to learn something new and have fun it’s only natural that sparks will fly.

John Lennon on Life and Love

An outspoken advocate of love, John Lennon, sought to achieve more beyond his involvement in the Beatles, as if being a founding member of the best selling band of all time wasn’t enough. Lennon was an activist, a promoter of peace, and his music became synonymous with the anti-war movement. Lennon dreamt of a world with no war, with no conflict, one that was full of love. And when it came to love, Lennon certainly had a lot to say:

“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”

Lennon believed in love being a necessity of life, both love for one’s self and love for each other. His words were inspiring and rang true, and remain as valuable lessons we could all use to this very day. October would have marked Lennon’s 79th birthday, and we can only imagine how much more love there would be in the world if he were alive today.

Toxic Behaviors That Are Damaging to Relationships

A strong relationship takes commitment and work, but it also takes the ability to recognize behaviors that are damaging to it. Here are two toxic behaviors that are damaging to relationships, recognizing them may just be the key to keeping relationships happy and healthy.

Holding the relationship hostage. If a partner exhibits a behavior that you’re not happy with, let’s say they’re not great at listening, it may be tempting to say something along the lines of “I can’t be with someone who isn’t a good listener.” This kind of reaction amounts to a form of relationship hostage holding, and can be interpreted as a thinly veiled threat. A better approach may be to say “Can we learn how to listen to each other?” and approach it as an issue you could both improve on.

Passive aggressive behavior. The words “nothing’s wrong” can have different meaning depending on the tone of voice used, and let’s be honest, how often have we said them either coldly or aggressively. Avoiding issues through passive aggressive behavior like petty actions designed to infuriate your partner do nothing to resolve those issues, and often make them worse or create new ones altogether. Clear communication, stating feelings openly, and dealing with issues head on and the best ways to solve any spat, and go a long way towards building strong bonds.
