John Lennon on Life and Love

An outspoken advocate of love, John Lennon, sought to achieve more beyond his involvement in the Beatles, as if being a founding member of the best selling band of all time wasn’t enough. Lennon was an activist, a promoter of peace, and his music became synonymous with the anti-war movement. Lennon dreamt of a world with no war, with no conflict, one that was full of love. And when it came to love, Lennon certainly had a lot to say:

“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”

Lennon believed in love being a necessity of life, both love for one’s self and love for each other. His words were inspiring and rang true, and remain as valuable lessons we could all use to this very day. October would have marked Lennon’s 79th birthday, and we can only imagine how much more love there would be in the world if he were alive today.
